Discussion Groups at CCL

Currently Carpenter-Carse Library offers two book discussion groups that meet once a month and are facilitated by programming librarian Meg Malone. Participants are welcome to attend one-off meetings to discuss a specific title, or try to join on a regular basis.

Interested in joining a future meeting? Email meg@carpentercarse.org for more details and/or to request a copy of an upcoming title. If you’re curious at some past selections, click here to see a list of previous discussion picks for both groups.

Mystery Book Group

The Mystery Book Group meets the second Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. — and as the name suggests, these meetings will each focus on a different mystery book, though the tones each month can span from thrillers to more “cozy” fare. This group has been meeting in-person at the library (following masking guidelines), with the possibility of switching to Zoom as deemed necessary.

Upcoming selections:

  • May 11, 2022: Death of a New American, by Mariah Fredericks (sequel to our December 2021 pick — but can certainly be read standalone)

  • June 8, 2022: Clark and Division, by Naomi Hirahira

Evening Book Group

The Evening Book Group meets the last Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. and cycles through a variety of different genres and formats (a great way to discover something you maybe wouldn’t pick up on your own!). This group has been meeting on Zoom and will continue to for the foreseeable future.

Upcoming selections:

  • May 31, 2022: The Leavers, by Lisa Ko
